Hursey Seafoods

It’s not just all about lobster at Hursey’s.

In 1973 Jim & Val Hursey relocated from Dover in Southern Tasmania following the tragic death of daughter Julie. They accumulated fishing vessels and son Patrick nicknamed “Kermie”, had a vision of a retail outlet to sell catch direct to public. In 1986, Patrick was lost at sea attempting to rescue an adventurer canoeist in the early stages of crossing Bass Strait. As a memoriam the current site was purchased in 1987  and a fish factory, takeaway and a small café were built.  A complete renovation in 2015 now sees a 100 seat upstairs restaurant, with take away & fresh fish sales area downstairs.

Hursey’s 9 vessels catch Southern Rock Lobster/Giant Crab, scale fish and gummy shark from Bruny Island in the South to King Island in the Bass Strait and right along the rugged West Coast, with the catch processed on board ready for export sales and our restaurant. Their fully licensed restaurant menu features Southern Rock Lobster, scallops, oysters and other seasonally available fresh seafood, local beer and wine, a children’s menu and can cater for large groups, functions and special events.
